Where: At GOB Retail, of course!
Welcome to the Magic the Gathering League at GOB Retail. Starting October 12th and running until Feb 22nd, the Magic the Gathering League will be a casual play league where players will have the opportunity to play a wide variety of deck formats against other players and score league points for playing, winning and attaining certain achievements. Deck formats that will be allowed will be:
All Commons
Noble
Standard
Legacy (GOB style, see below)
Vintage
Vintage, Proxy 10
Iron Man
League players may agree to play any other player in the league at any time and each player may chose to play any of the above deck formats. Format that each player will play can be agreed upon before setting up a match. Both players need not play the same format and in fact, players who play a handicapped format and win will gain additional league points for winning than they would if they have won playing against the same deck format. So if your all common card deck can whip someone's Vintage, Proxy 10 deck, you'll be able to earn a fair number of bonus league points.
Point Scoring
All players earn 1 point for each match they play, win or lose. A match is considered a best 2 out of three games.
The player who wins a match will get a number of bonus league points based on the deck he played against. These are listed
below.

2 on 1 Match Ups
Any three players who agree may agree to play a 2 on 1 match-up. These games shall pit one player against two. In those format, the one player always goes first and may draw a card on their first turn. If the two players win, they will earn the same league points they would otherwise earn if they played that same deck solo. The player playing against the two players, however, stands to earn the combined league points they would have earned as if they had played and won against both players individually, plus the extra +2 bonus points.
Winning the League
The 3 players with the highest league points shall be considered the winners (placed, 1st, 2nd and 3rd). All winners will get a choice from a variety of card singles made available as prizes for this league (cards to be announced). Additionally, the top placed winner shall get all cards put into the prize pool from Iron Man deck play (see below).
Format Notes:
Standard Wizards of the Coast deck building rules for each format apply, except for the following:
1) legacy is simply Vintage, less the Moxes, Black Lotus, Time Twister, Time Walk and Ancestral Recall.
2) Vintage Proxy 10 follows vintage rules except you are allowed up to 10 proxy cards. Proxy cards must be an otherwise legal
card for the format and the proxy must contain the card name, type and casting cost. Either on the card or elsewhere, the player using a proxy must have available the entire text of the proxy for the opponent to be able to read.
3) Time Vault House Ruling. Going back to previous WOTC errata for this card. It may ONLY be untapped by skipping your next turn. Cards and other affects that could otherwise untap it, can not.
4) The Worldgorger Dragon is banned.
Iron Man Deck Format
Iron Man games harken back to early days of Magic, before players realized that Magic cards could hold value. When playing an
Iron Man game, if a player had a card go into their graveyard, they had to rip up that card.
Our Iron man format will work a bit differently. Only the player playing the Iron Man deck format must adhere to these rules, as a person playing an Iron Man deck can easily play a player with a different deck format. For players playing an Iron man deck, when playing if a card would hit their graveyard, that card must be removed from their deck and set aside. It is considered exiled for game play purposes. At the end of a game, all such cards are forever removed from the deck and given over to join a central prize pool. All cards put into this pool there to be won by the overall winner of the league.
In a 2 out of 3 match up, after the first and 2nd games, a player playing a Iron Man deck will likely find their deck starts
game 2 and game 3 less than 60 cards. That state after game 1 will not disqualify the player, but in game 1 the deck must start as a legal deck. Iron Man decks may be of any deck format, except Vintage Proxy 10.
Happy Gaming,
Ryan
