GOB Game Library - Weekly New Games Added
New Board and Card Games have been added weekly. 240+ games are available for everyone to play in the GOB Game Room (Free) or Rent out. Games may be rented for up to 5 days (not counting the day you rent it) for fairly nominal amounts, which will be $3, $5, $7 or $10 depending on the size and cost of the game. The library will contain a mixture of new games and it will keep some well loved now out of print games as a means to keep them available to you. Up to 2 games may be rented at the same time.
Better yet! When you return your rental, if you found you really liked it, you can buy a new copy and we'll discount that new copy the amount you paid for the rental. So you can use the renting library as a try it before you buy it service.

Women in Tabletop Games by Ryan
Greetings,
Another month, another newsletter and some more of my industry ramblings.
A couple weeks back my wife pointed out that March was women history month. So we decided we would make our two board and card game demos each week, games designed by women. No problem the first week, the ever-so popular Wingspan was designed by a woman. Stretching the 2nd week, we found another couple games designed by women. One of them by locals here in Clawson. But week 2 was harder to pick for games. We took to the internet to try and find more women designed games. But we are also limited by games we have in, or can put into our demo library. And as a matter of practical marketing, we should ideally have copies of the games for sale. It's been a bit of a challenge, since the number of games designed by women is still a small minority of games published.
Back in my youth, in the days of yore, hobby gaming was very much a male dominated hobby. Not that we are good or better at it, but rather most girls/women wouldn't be caught dead hanging out to play games with us geeks and nerds. But this is not your grand daddy's hobby game market anymore and I think we've mostly left those days Yore safely in the past where they belong. There are a lot more women enjoying the hobby today than ever before. I see it in the store all the time. We're not at a 50/50% party yet and some game segments have appealed to women gamers far better than others, but it is a night a day comparison to 30 years ago.
So while the broader word is out there celebrating women history month, I would like to celebrate women in gaming at all levels. To women out now designing games and heading some of our publishing companies. I see a lot more women in game retailing, often couples running their stores side by side, but also ,more 100% women owners. Here at GOB Retail, my Wife has been a 50% equal partner from day 1, and we've worked side by side for the last 15 years to evolve and grow the store to the best version itself yet. Hopefully we can keep moving the needle into the future. As an employer, we've always wanted equal representation of staff and we have that currently, but it always hasn't been so. When we advertise for open positions we have to judge each candidate on their experience and merits, without such considerations. Parity can also prove challenging to achieve if four or five out of every six applications is male.
Hobby Gaming continues to be a more open and inclusive scene for everyone. And why not? There are so many ways to enjoy geekdom, it's not even necessarily considered to be geekdome anymore! The more gamers the better! Support that inner game designer in yourself, in your friends. Let that awe inspiring epic world building Dungeon Master in you out. Gaming is limitless.
